OUTINGS

A further trip to the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool took place in ‘July 98. A meal was provided at the White Tower Restaurant. This was followed by 1) a visit to The Dome to see an unusual Acrobatic show – “ECLIPSE” and 2) the Hot Ice SHOW” which lived up to the usual standard.

Immediately after the Meeting in August ’98 members enjoyed a coach trip which covered the scenic routes around parts of S. Cheshire, Staffs Moorlands, the Peaks and Derby Dales. Stops were made at Buxton, Bakewell and Longnor.

In September ’98 a two day coach trip was organised visiting W. Yorkshire including the popular and quaint town of Grassington. Members stayed overnight at the Clifton Hill Hotel, Penrith. The next day involved touring the Lake District spending the afternoon at Windermere.

On 15th December, a coach trip to Nottingham was arranged. Members spent the morning around the market. In the afternoon they were entertained at a Musical held at a venue in the town.

In February ’99 members visited BBC Pebble Mill to see the popular TV program – “Going for a song”. In this a panel of celebrities try to guess the price of some antiques, an expert gives the real price. The studio had the usual “warm up” man. Remarks were made about the poor facilities offered by the BBC.

In April ’99 was a two day visit where we made our way into Cumbria staying at the Clifton Hill Hotel, Penrith. After breakfast we journeyed on into W. Yorkshire via a very rough and winding road en route to Richmond. (It was here that we learned of the death of the popular TV presenter – Jill Dando – who had been shot). After having a look around the town and having lunch we continued on to Harrogate where we spent the afternoon before returning home.

PRESIDENTS REMARKS

President John Podmore had this to say about his Presidential Year:-

“I enjoyed an interesting year as President and being associated with the continued success of the Club. My only regret was being unable to attend all the meetings as President due to family commitments overseas. However, it was a satisfying conclusion to my year in Office to be involved with the first “Presidents Evening” which proved to be successful, and for introducing accumulating Club Funds to help to defray expenses at this and similar events”.
