Minutes for the AGM of Kidsgrove Probus held on
Wednesday 26th June 2024 at Kidsgrove C.C. at 10.00
Attendance: Vic Fayers-Hallin, Linda Fayers-Hallin, Helen Owen, John Dunn, Len Dale, John Lowe, Terry Dale, Leslie Ford, Terry Cook, Adrian Ford, George Harrop, Frank Eld, Ken Williamson, John Hughes, Andrew Dimelow, David Tipper, Graham Brown, Les Ford, Alan Henshaw, Vivian Henshaw, Malcolm Rigby.
- Apologies for Absence: Graham Tunnicliff, David Birchall, Michael Nield, Peter Lloyd, Fred Maxfield.
- Election of President – There were no volunteers or nomination for the position of President. Therefore, Vic Fayers-Hallin was unanimously elected as President.
- Election of Vice-President – There were no volunteers or nomination for the position of Vice-President. Therefore, Graham Tunnicliff was unanimously elected as Vice-President.
- There were no volunteers or nomination for the position of Social Secretary. Ken Williamson addressed the floor explaining what was entailed for the position. John Lowe again offered to assist with functions which involved a meal. It was agreed that members would try and organise functions. These included a musical fish/pie & chips evening, visit to Cosford Aerospace Museum, boat trip on Rudyard Lake, cream tea, holiday, day trips using cars for transport, arboretum, and coach trip. Would all members please look at websites for ideas for places to visit, and let the Secretary know or bring that idea to meetings? Thank you.
- The minutes of last year’s AGM had been emailed to all members or hand delivered to those 6 members who do not have access to email.
- There were no matters arising from those minutes.
- The President then made a short address:
- Over the past year, there had been the death of two members: Eddy Bates (member since 1998) and Bill Booth (member since 2000.) In addition, one former member Bill Kay (member 2009 – 2021) also died. A Minute of Reflection was held to remember them.
- The President thanked the Standing Committee for their work during the year, and reminded members that without them there would be no Probus Club
- He also thanked David Tipper for his work arranging the varied speakers, and Len Dale for organising both the summer and winter bowls.
- Special thanks were given to our Treasurer Helen Owen who carried on her position, despite suffering from cancer and during her treatment. She received an appreciative round of applause from all members present.
- Treasurer’s Report. The audited Accounts were presented, and Helen thanked the auditors, Alan Henshall and Terry Dale, for their assistance.

This means that we made an excess of £225.26 over the year.
- Social Report
- 3 meals had been organised over the year: President’s dinner, Christmas Lunch and a lunch at the Legs of Man.
- This coming Friday (28th June) is the next President’s dinner, to be held at Alsager’s Golf Club. There is a new Chef in the Golf Club who has arrived from the Potters Club, so we hope he will live up to his reputation. There are 17 men and 19 women attending..
- Other suggestions were made for possible visits including a trip to the London Eye and Buckingham Palace.
- A reminder was given to those 9 members who have yet to collect their Kidsgrove Cricket Club Social Membership Card from the Secretary.
- A suggestion had been made at an earlier meeting that instead of whiskey as the raffle prize, 2 bottles of wine be utilised. The winner donated them to the next meeting, so at the July meeting the raffle will be for 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of whiskey.
There will be a meeting of the Council on Wednesday 24th July followed by the next Club meeting on Wednesday 31st July, both meeting scheduled to start at 10.00 hrs.
