February 2014 Newsletter 139th Edition
President’s Remarks
Sadly one of our oldest and founder members Ken Evans passed away at the end of January and it was pleasing to see so many members paying their last respects to him at the funeral service at the Baptist Church in Butt Lane.
Woolliscrofts are no longer producing the newsletter for us but what a splendid job Michael Nield did for us with the January edition and hopefully will continue to produce monthly editions which will also be published on the website. Thank you Michael for all your efforts.
We have lost one member but have gained a replacement and I was pleased to induct Terry Cook into the club at the last meeting. I am sure he will be a keen and enthusiastic member.
There are lots of social activities to look forward to with holidays, outings and theatre visits. Our thanks to Peter Lowe and his committee for a busy social year.
We all miss our absent members particularly those who are not well – Peter Smith, Ernie Langford, Trevor Proudman and Ernie Beckett and our thoughts and prayers go out to our Treasurer Norman Hankey whose wife Dorothy is seriously ill in Leighton Hospital

Wednesday 5 March 2014 The venue for the probus walk this month will depend on the weather conditions. Meet at the car park in Heathcote Street in Kidsgrove at 9.30am.
Wednesday 12 March 2014 Probus Luncheon Club meeting at the Legs of Man, Newcastle Road, Sandbach. It is being organised by Michael Nield. Meet in the bar at 12.30pm to start the meal at 1.00pm.
Tuesday 18 March 2014 Probus Bowls at the Victoria Centre, Crewe. Start at 11.00am
Wednesday 19 March 2014 Probus Council Meeting at the Cricket Club. Meet 9.30am
Friday 21 March 2014 Clough Hall B.C Race Night at the Cricket Club. Commences at 7.30pm. Tickets from Derek Cross or Len Dale.
Saturday 22 March 2014 Coach outing to Leeds to see “The Good Old Days”. Matinee performance.

It was last April that Alan Brown passed away. His Son, Paul has been in touch with us to say that his Mother Pat has decided to move to a new home, returning to West Yorkshire after 55 years in North Staffordshire.

Probus Pictures 2012 – 2013
A new DVD has been produced by Michael Nield and Peter Lloyd showing photos of probus events taken during the past two years. Disc 2 is available to be purchased from the Secretary from today at a cost of £1.00.
