President’s Remarks 29th March 2017
We give a special welcome to Malcolm Rigby who is attending his third meeting with us and has hopefully enjoyed the experience.
Our sympathies go to Peter Lloyd who has recently had a fall whilst gardening that has left him with a fractured shoulder. I am sure that he is being well cared for by his wife Jennifer. We send our best wishes to them both and hope that Peter makes a good recovery.
I would like to thank John Crutchley for the splendid meal he organised at the Legs Of Man for the club members, an event that was well supported.
Thanks are also due to Alan Henshall who month by month works tirelessly to ensure we have excellent and entertaining speakers. Since our last meeting I have seen Lance Corporal Coltman mentioned in many articles about World War One. Adrian
The speaker for our March Meeting is Professor Ian Morrison
His talk is entitled :- Jodrell Bank And It’s Telescope.
Birthdays in April:-
Eddie Bates, Chris Brough, Andrew Dimelow, John Hughes
and Steven Jenks.
And, we have a 40th Wedding Anniversary on the 9th April,
Stephen and Margaret Jenks.
Congratulations To You Both.
March Walk Report
The March walk was a local one – a trip up The Cloud, but from the opposite way round to our usual, via the Bridestones on the Congleton to Rushton Spencer road and then along Cloudside Lane. This way it’s only a short climb to reach the top. The great views on the west side were then enjoyed on the way down. As I’ve said before, in my book, perhaps the best local walk. Lunch was taken at the Church House in Buglawton.
April Walk Wednesday 5th April
April’s walk will start from Audlem and go south along the Shropshire Union canal past a staircase of locks. We will leave the canal and pass through the hamlet of Kinsey Heath, circling round and passing through farmland and Audlem itself before re-joining the canal just north of the Shropie Fly pub where I suggest we have lunch. The walk is a very easy one of 4 to 5 miles.
Please meet at the tiered car parks in Kidsgrove on Wednesday 5thApril at 9:30.
