August 2020

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS

Greetings Gentlemen, another month goes by without a meeting due to Covid 19.

Our members Eddie Bates, John Crutchley and Bob Kay are all recovering from health problems and I’m sure all Probus members wish them well.

Matters arising from our July council meeting will be presented to Probus members at our Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday 28 October 2020 providing there are no problems with coronavirus.

My selection for special praise member this month is our long time Social Manager and now social committee spokesman Ken Williamson. For a good many years Ken has arranged our social events, day trips and holidays which we have all gratefully benefitted from and enjoyed with our families and friends. Well done Ken please keep up your good work with our social committee team.

Until we can meet again Gentlemen keep yourselves and your families safe and well.

Regards

John Dunn

I understand that bowls will be played at Clough Hall next and later indoor bowls will be played at Biddulph.

The week-end break at the Evans Hotel Llandudno on Friday 6th November 2020 is still going ahead. Bookings and deposits are being collected by Frank Timmis and Mike Nield.

The Probus Christmas Lunch will be held at the Manor House Hotel Alsager on Wednesday 2nd December 2020. Menus have not yet been received but will be distributed when available.

I have attached a 1954 photograph to this report showing the thespian activities of some of our members and their wives. Can you spot them?

Keep safe and well.

ODE TO CHESHIRE

Here lies a tale of places in Cheshire, where people are happy and under no pressure.

We will start with Chester-most famous of all, With Cathedral, River and walks on the wall. We are noted for houses in black and white, I think Moreton Hall is such a delight. Tea shops abound with home-made cakes, stately homes with wrought iron gates.

We have Alderley Edge and Capesthorne Hall, Delamere Forest where the trees grow tall.

Crewe with its railway, Rolls Royce and Bentley cars, Jodrell Bank where we look at the stars.

No wonder we smile like the Cheshire cat. For we are proud of our county-so that is that.
