President’s Remarks
Thank you to all members who attended St Thomas’s Church to pay their last respects to Maurice Colclough on the occasion of his funeral. The church was full and it is fair to say that the majority of the mourners were Probus members and their wives.
GOOD NEWS
You will remember that our PA system had failed at our last meeting; fortunately this coincided with the Town Council awarding community grants to local organisations towards operational equipment.
Consequently we applied to the council and I am pleased to announce that we have been awarded the full amount enabling us to purchase a replacement system, including head set microphones, USB ports and other sockets which will enable us to connect to computers and other related devices. I will make a further announcement at the next meeting.
The last indoor bowls competition at the Oakley Centre in Crewe took place on Tuesday 17 March and this seasons winners were awarded the cherished cup. Celebrations continued in the Travellers Rest at Scholar Green.
MORE GOOD NEWS
It has been confirmed that the Oakley centre will remain open until April 2016, this means that the traditional Winter season bowls competition will commence again in September 2015.
PIE AND PEA SUPPER
It does not seem two months since we had to abandon our Musical Evening due to a severe weather forecast and for once they got it right, fortunately our treasurer had plenty of space in his freezer and the pies were saved. So Thursday 26th March is the big day, make sure you attend and bring along your choice of music which I will be pleased to play. Don’t forget there is also a free raffle.
The next walk will be on April 1st, meet on the terraced car park in Kidsgrove at 09:30hrs. The walk will be in Apedale Country Park. Lunch t.b.a.
