PRESIDENT’S REMARKS

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS

Welcome Gentlemen to another hitherto Probus meeting. I’ve been in contact with Eddie Bates who is still poorly but now at home being looked after by Margaret and visits from social carers. I’m sure you will all join me in wishing him a full recovery.

On a lighter note, I wonder how many of you completed the quiz Frank Timmis gave us. I certainly didn’t and am looking forward to the answers.

This month I nominate our member Peter Lloyd for special praise. Peter hasn’t had the best of health these past couple of years but has taken an active part in Probus activities. i.e., Bowls, walks, social events and holidays and photo competitions and also organising visits to his amateur pantomimes and plays at Haslington. He does a sterling job recording staff photos and social events on camera as Probus official photographer. Please keep up your good work Peter when we are able to get back to normal.

Until next time keep yourselves safe and well.

John Dunn.

SOCIAL REPORT

Nothing to say but you may enjoy this little story.
In November 1996 we went on holiday to Portugal staying at the Auramar hotel in Albufeira. The hotel was sited by the beach and had an outdoor swimming pool and a large entertainment room where music and dancing took place. One evening the lady singer invited a number of people to join and sing with her on stage and my friends pushed me forward, all was well until she announced that there would be a singing competition. Everyone beat a hasty retreat but four of us were not quick enough and she introduced us to the Karaoke machine and microphone. One lady sang Doris Day’s Kay Sera Sera, the other lady sang Barbara Streisand’s The Way We Were. I was going to sing Frank Sinatra’ My Way but the other chap beat me to it so I sang Unchained Melody popularised by The Righteous Brothers. The results were obtained by the audience’s clapping and my love song must have appealed to all the ladies for I was adjudged the winner and presented with the following certificate.

Oh, for those good old days.
