March 2020

PRESIDENTS REMARKS

Gentlemen it is with regret that our Probus meetings will not take place in the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus problem. However we can still contact each other if the occasion arises.

If anyone wishes to inform us all of anything, I suggest they address us through our secretary Michael Nield who will pass on all information.

I’m hoping that by the time of our A.G.M meeting things will be something like back to normal.

Good luck to you all and take care of yourselves and your families.

John Dunn

CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Council have decided that all Probus meetings and social events are cancelled until further notice. The Cricket Club is closed.

In view of the exceptional circumstances and doubt about the A.G.M may not take place, the council will recommend to members that all officials will serve another 12 months.

BIRTHDAYS IN APRIL

Eddie Bates, John Hughes, Andrew Dimelow, Stephen Jenks, Chris Brough.

SOCIAL REPORT FOR MARCH 2020

The Seven Day holiday arranged with Alfa Travel at the Cavendish Hotel Exmouth departing Sunday 17th May 2020 is now fully booked with 41 members and guests. I have not received any information from Alfa as to whether it will take place but present travel restrictions make it extremely unlikely.

Presidents Evening should be held at the Manor House Hotel Alsager on Friday 29th May 2020 and menus should have been returned, but a further copy is attached. The cost will be £29.00 and a deposit of £10.00 per person will be required from those intending to attend at the end of March.

As the March meeting has been cancelled. Menus and payment to be sent to myself. Again I have received no answer from the Manor House regarding cancellation

A social evening with refreshments and Beetle Drive to celebrate John Crutchley’s 90th birthday will be held at the Cricket Club on Wednesday 21st October 2020. The cost will be £5.00 and John Lowe will collect names.

A further week-end break will be held at the Evans Hotel Llandudno on Friday 6th November 2020. Bookings and deposits are being collected by Frank Timmis.

WALK REPORT – MARCH 2020

This month’s walk was around Tittersworth reservoir a distance of 7km, but our adventures started before we even arrived and illustrate the perils of “SATNAV’s and travelling in convoy.

The back of the convoy lost momentary contact with the car in front and followed the car they assumed to be in our convoy into the health centre car park, resuming their journey they had lost the car they were supposed to be following. But no worries they had SATNAV.

Some 20+miles later and after visiting several peak district villages, amazingly they arrived at the Lazy Trout in Meerbrook, the start of our walk; by which time the rest of us were well on our way. Eventually we managed to get all eleven together and after some hilarity we all completed the walk and retired to the Pub for an excellent Lunch before going home, all arriving in Kidsgrove together and without further incident. Oh! And it didn’t rain and the sun shone, well part of the way.

Names are omitted to protect the innocent.
