October 2020

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS

Welcome Gentlemen to our A.G.M meeting cancelled due to Covid-19 rules. No news from our Council meeting which was also cancelled.

On behalf of Probus I offer congratulations to Vivien and Alan Henshall on their Diamond Wedding anniversary and to John Crutchley on his 90thbirthday. Unfortunately, John has been admitted into hospital with a sepsis complaint and I am sure you will all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Our trip to Llandudno is also cancelled.

Alan Henshall will present the wreath on behalf of Probus at the cenotaph on remembrance Sunday.

On a lighter note I will leave you with a joke: – Describe with a 7-letter word that which many people get great pleasure from while doing this in bed at night?

Answer: – “Reading” until next time – keep your selves and your families safe and well.

Regards

John Dunn.

BIRTHDAYS IN NOVEMBER 2020

Barry Rogerson on the 11th

DIAMOND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Congratulations to Alan and Vivienne Henshall who celebrate their diamond (60th) wedding anniversary on Thursday 29 October 2020

9Oth BIRTHDAY

Congratulations to John Crutchley on reaching his 90th birthday on Thursday 22 October 2020.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus we were unable to have a party to celebrate the occasion.

SOCIAL REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2020

The week-end break to the Evans Hotel Llandudno on Friday 6th November 2020 is cancelled and has been re-arranged for 9th April 2021 at the same price. Bookings and deposits or cancellations are being dealt with by Frank Timmis and Mike Nield

The Probus Christmas Lunch at the Manor House Hotel Alsager on Wednesday 2nd December 2020 is also cancelled so sadly (or happily) you will miss the carols and my funny stories this year.

Unfortunately, present circumstances make it difficult to arrange future social events but when things improve and we are allowed, we will have a great celebration party.

In the meantime, keep safe, keep well and keep smiling.

p.s. Just some light hearted quotes to make you smile.

1)    Apparently, you can’t use ‘beef stew’ as a password.

 It’s not stroganoff.

2)     I accidentally swallowed a bunch of scrabble tiles.

My next trip to the bathroom could spell disaster.

REINDEER COLLECTION

The Rotary Club of Kidsgrove have been in touch to confirm that due to the Covid-19 virus situation they will not be doing any Reindeer Collections this year.

However, they are hoping to get permission to tour the streets as normal playing their Christmas music and with Santa behind a Perspex screen but not knocking on doors.

Because of insurance restrictions, if they do get permission then they shall only be able to use a Rotary Crew of 6 including Santa and driver.

Rotary thank you for all your help previously and hope that next year will be a different proposition.

Wishing you and your families a Safe and Merry Christmas.
