May’s walk was in and around the outstanding local beauty spot of Apedale Country Park with its commanding views of Newcastle, the Potteries and beyond. The Park was an extensive Open Cast site as recently as the early 90’s.
Five members and three ladies attended for the leisurely walk of just over 4 miles with a stop for refreshment at the Apedale visitor centre.
One highlight for me was a small herd of Belted Galloway cattle – the breed being featured recently on Country file.
Afterwards we had lunch at the Plough, Bignall End.
